ROLE OVERVIEWThiess is seeking Heavy Equipment Operators to support our mining team on our project site near Denver, Colorado. Depending on availability, business necessity, and operator experience, heavy equipment operators can run large surface mining haul trucks, water truck, dozer, motor grader, large excavator, or wheel loader in an open-cut mining environment in a safe, productive, and cost-effective manner.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESUnder direct supervision, the Heavy Equipment Operator performs earthmoving and support duties in a Mining environmentJob tasks, correctly performed, impact indirectly on cost containment, efficiency, profitability, or operationsObserves and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing PPEJob tasks, correctly performed, impact indirectly on cost containment, efficiency, profitability, or operationsMentor newer operatorsPerforms other related duties as assignedDemonstrated ability to achieve results within a team environment with minimal supervision at timesGood oral and written communication skillsHigh level of attention to detail and excellent follow-up skillsThe ability to work in a team environmentAbility and willingness to work different schedule on site based on project needsEXCAVATOR/LOADER: Minimum of 3 years' experience operating load units to include excavator and loaderMust have working knowledge of overburden handling, ore and soil segregation, while maintaining gradeGeneral knowledge of hydraulic principles, dig face managementPreferred experience:Cat D9 and larger or equivalent dozersCat 980 and larger or equivalent loadersCat 14 and larger or equivalent motor gradersHaul trucks – diesel/electric and mechanical Cat 777 and larger or equivalentMining or heavy industrial construction experience requiredTransferrable construction equipment, veteran or military operations experience considered in lieu of miningValid driver's license and a clean driving recordWork with other project employees to meet the project's safety, environment, and production targetsAuthorization to work lawfully in the USA without sponsorship from Thiess is requiredMust be fluent in the English languageAble to lift 50 poundsAble to live and work at high altitudes (12,000 ft. elevation) for a week at a timeAble to work in extreme winter conditions with temperatures regularly below zero degrees FahrenheitAble to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and climb laddersAble to work for extended 12-hour shiftsCan work night shifts (7 p.m. – 7 a.m.) seven days at a time and properly manage fatigueNo auditory or visual impairments restricting the ability to see distances while driving and clearly discern auditory and visual alerts/alarms (not including color blindness)Quick response/reaction timesArm-hand steadiness and manual dexterityPost-high school training in a related areaAt Thiess we have a One HSE culture and want to ensure everyone is safe every day: employees, families, and society.
