Integrate diverse laboratory instruments (e.g., potentiostats, gas chromatographs, spectrometers) into a unified system, ensuring seamless communication and control through software and firmware development. Fast prototyping of custom hardware components and robotic systems to automate sample handling, data acquisition, and experimental workflows for electrocatalyst screening and characterization. Integrate robotic arms, gantry systems, syringe pumps, and other hardware components to automate sample handling, reagent delivery, and experimental workflows for electrocatalyst screening and analysis. Stay updated with advancements in laboratory automation, mechatronics, and electrocatalyst research to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into the lab design. RequirementsBachelor's or Master's degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, ideally with a focus on laboratory automationHands-on experience in designing and implementing mechatronic systems, including knowledge of sensors, actuators, microcontrollers, and automation software. Proficiency in software and firmware development for instrument communication, data acquisition, and process automation (e.g., Python, C/C++)Familiarity with Rapid Prototyping (e.g., via 3D printing) and Version Control (Git) Proficiency in CAD modelling and mechanical design software to create custom hardware solutions tailored for laboratory automation, e.g. using Onshape, AutoCAD, SolidWorks etc. Knowledge of control systems, motor control, and motion planning for coordinated movement of robotic arms and gantry systems within the conveyor belt setupStrong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. Nice to have:Product design to ensure the hardware is up to standard and aesthetically pleasing. Experience in PLC and Control Systems Programming and designing control systems for seamless coordination and synchronization of hardware components. Familiarity with automation software for data acquisition, instrument control, and real-time monitoring, allowing for enhanced integration and optimization of the conveyor belt system. Familiar with instruments used in renewable energy research such as potentiostats, gas chromatography sensors used in electrocatalyst research. Additional knowledge of safety protocols and risk assessment in laboratory automation to ensure a secure working environment for researchers and proper handling of chemical reagents.
