You’ll work alongside accomplished, world-renowned engineers on perhaps the most exciting automotive programs in existence today.Mechanical Design Engineer - Interiors EngineeringBe part of a growing and energetic Interior team (including, but not limited to IP, Console, X Car Beam, Door Trim Panels, Hard Trim, Headliner Systems, Carpets, Insulators, Seats and Luggage Compartment Trim), to engineer, execute and deliver cutting-edge products to global customers. This is a pivotal role to act as liaison between US and Berlin engineering teams to tackle challenging problems together. You will work with cross-functional team members to continuously innovate and launch new products for Europe and other growing markets.What You'll DoDevelop and execute interior system for one or more of the aforementioned interior commoditiesAchieve customer-driven interior system targets for luxury, function, cost and weightParticipate in the iterative process with the Tesla design/styling studio to deliver the optimal balance of form vs. function vs. costImplement processes and quality to achieve world class execution of automotive interior craftmanship and fit-finishSupport in design optimization with the appropriate analytical and physical assessmentsUtilize DFSS methodologies as appropriate during the design, validation and launch of current and new programsCollaborate with key interior suppliers and to support overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/production build eventsCollaborate with cross functional teams within the Tesla Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Procurement groups to ensure interior system manufacturing and assembly feasibility and serviceabilityResponsible for utilizing product engineering processes such as DFMEA and technical documentation - DVP&R and at times also Responsible for developing these documents.Follow up with suppliers regarding system/part level validationFollow up on Jig/fixture creation/validation for interior components.Analyze Field Reliability data of current programs to improve Interior Reliability through design/process/manufacturing changesCollaborate with key exterior system and plastic component suppliers and support overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/production build eventsInteract and coordinate component/system Validation with Reliability Team and Testing groupValidation Plan creation and execution of Interior Components What You'll BringBachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 4 years of experience in automotive interior component and subsystem engineering, demonstrating technical aptitude from concept through release and launch for productionFundamental understanding of differences in design and engineering of premium luxury interior trim and systems and have examples or a portfolio of completed programsIn-depth technical expertise with the latest manufacturing technologies and feasibility execution to achieve system and world-class craftsmanship/ performance targetsProficiency in 3D modeling utilizing CATIA V5 or V6 is essential within an automotive product development environment.Strong working knowledge of DFM and DFA, including familiarity with GD&T and dimensional controlsDemonstrate an ability to manage difficult projects with tight timing constraints and provide examples of such scenarios throughout your careerFirst principles, physics-based thinker, and problem solver able to handle problems of varied scope and complexity. Demonstrate technical aptitude, excellent communication, and creativity. Proficient in English
