Job Description

ROLE OVERVIEW

Thiess is seeking Heavy Equipment Operators to support our mining team on our project site near Denver, Colorado. Depending on availability, business necessity, and operator experience, heavy equipment operators can run large surface mining haul trucks, water truck, dozer, motor grader, large excavator, or wheel loader in an open-cut mining environment in a safe, productive, and cost-effective manner.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under direct supervision, the Heavy Equipment Operator performs earthmoving and support duties in a Mining environment
  • Job tasks, correctly performed, impact indirectly on cost containment, efficiency, profitability, or operations
  • Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing PPE
  • Job tasks, correctly performed, impact indirectly on cost containment, efficiency, profitability, or operations
  • Mentor newer operators
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results within a team environment with minimal supervision at times
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • High level of attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills
  • The ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability and willingness to work different schedule on site based on project needs
  • EXCAVATOR/LOADER: Minimum of 3 years' experience operating load units to include excavator and loader
  • Must have working knowledge of overburden handling, ore and soil segregation, while maintaining grade
  • General knowledge of hydraulic principles, dig face management
  • Preferred experience:
  • Cat D9 and larger or equivalent dozers
  • Cat 980 and larger or equivalent loaders
  • Cat 14 and larger or equivalent motor graders
  • Haul trucks – diesel/electric and mechanical Cat 777 and larger or equivalent
  • Mining or heavy industrial construction experience required
  • Transferrable construction equipment, veteran or military operations experience considered in lieu of mining
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Work with other project employees to meet the project's safety, environment, and production targets
  • Authorization to work lawfully in the USA without sponsorship from Thiess is required
  • Must be fluent in the English language
  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Able to live and work at high altitudes (12,000 ft. elevation) for a week at a time
  • Able to work in extreme winter conditions with temperatures regularly below zero degrees Fahrenheit
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and climb ladders
  • Able to work for extended 12-hour shifts
  • Can work night shifts (7 p.m. – 7 a.m.) seven days at a time and properly manage fatigue
  • No auditory or visual impairments restricting the ability to see distances while driving and clearly discern auditory and visual alerts/alarms (not including color blindness)
  • Quick response/reaction times
  • Arm-hand steadiness and manual dexterity
  • Post-high school training in a related area
