Job Description

As a Maintenance Worker your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Completes repairs to building and facility electrical systems such as lighting and power fixtures, wiring, fire or water alarm systems, and emergency power systems.
  • Installs outlets, switches, light fixtures, regulators, and circuit breakers.
  • Required to meet local, state, federal, and national electrician standards, Electrical Code, and/or Uniform Building Code licensing standards or certification.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance on heating systems and refrigeration and air conditioning units.
  • Examines and operationally tests electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems for proper operation, fluid levels, cycling, and unusual noises.
  • Performs the maintenance, repair or construction of a variety of Service structures and surfaces of brick, block, stone, and other related materials.
  • Removes, replaces, and repairs defective components.
  • Adjusts equipment controls, such as temperature sensors, thermostats, and leak detectors.
  • Performs cement and concrete work on difficult projects, requiring more precise measurements and setting forms in curved as well as straight lines.
  • Operate various electric resistance welding machines such as spot, seam, and flash, or use a manual gas torch welding process such as oxyacetylene, to join a variety of different kinds of parts or components.
  • Performs minor roof repairs using roofing materials such as composite shingles, roofing felt, asphalt, venting, and flashing.
  • Applies standard measurements, specifications, and instructions when constructing, installing, or repairing items.
  • Performs plumbing tasks to various buildings and structures.
  • Performs the painting and coating work to the buildings and facilities by brushing, rolling, and spraying, using coating materials that are prepared according to specific directions,
  • Uses and maintains tools and equipment, records inventory and maintenance, and reports/documents equipment damage or loss.
  • Documents actions as required in various databases.
  • Perform repairs or assists in performing repairs on heavy equipment and machinery such as removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts and components.
  • Follows Service policies for operating and performing maintenance of equipment and infrastructure.
  • Performs routine preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Performs repairs and adjustments to equipment and attachments to equipment, this includes, but is not limited to, replacing chains and belts, cables, lubrication, filter changes, battery checks, changing dozer teeth and safety inspections.
  • Diagnoses malfunctions, determines needed repairs, repairs, and tests small gasoline and diesel engines such as those found on motor boats, lawn mowers, power saws, generators, and other similar equipment.
  • Operates a variety of types of heavy equipment to push, pull, pile, or load materials such as sand, gravel and earth..
  • Adjusts the attachments for proper level, angle, or depth, according to the work to be done and the type of equipment used. Adjustments are usually completed without stopping the power unit or the equipment.
  • Establishes rough grade, which is +/- 6 inches of specified grade. The operator follows oral instructions or written work orders concerning the location of the job and the work to be done.
  • Work is performed with limited direct supervision.
  • Plans and coordinates small to medium land management and earth moving projects within applicable specifications and requirements.
  • Operates a variety of farm-type tractors with towed or attached equipment on steep hills or rough terrain where there is significant danger of overturning the tractor or equipment.
  • Other equipment that may be operated includes, but is not limited to, Off-Road Utility Vehicles (ORUV's), Snowmobiles, Amphibious Vehicles, and All-Terrain vehicles, boats and airboats.
  • Serve as a mentor for other employees and volunteers. As required, serves as a safety instructor for other employees and volunteers in the operator's areas of knowledge (e.g. heavy equipment operation, off road utility vehicle operation, etc.).
  • Trains and demonstrates work methods for volunteers performing maintenance tasks. Ensures work crews follow safety procedures.
  • Work includes developing a course of action to manage and complete facility and land management operations and earth moving projects to prevent injury to others and damage to the equipment.
  • Documents maintenance actions and logs as required in computer systems. Uses and maintains tools and equipment, records inventory and maintenance, and reports or documents equipment damage or loss.
