The successful candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists to develop innovative and cost-efficient solutions for domestic and international mining projects.Responsibilities:Design, implement, and evaluate geochemical characterization programs for mining projects.Perform domestic and international fieldwork to collect samples, install wells, monitor water quality, and evaluate geochemical characteristics of waste rock, ore, and tailings.Apply geochemical analysis and modeling methods to issues related to tailings and waste rock management, water treatment, mine site closure, and contaminant fate and transport in groundwater and surface water.Review and evaluate analytical data to ensure data quality, determine statistical trends, and verify compliance with regulatory standards.Prepare reports, letters, study plans, and technical memoranda in support of project work.Perform research related to site and material characterization, analytical testing, regulatory codes and standards, and geologic, geochemical, and hydrogeologic conditions at various project sites.Perform all work in accordance with Knight Piésold’s health and safety program and industry accepted standards to ensure safe working conditions and protection of the environment.An Ideal Candidate:Master’s degree in geochemistry, geology, hydrogeology, or environmental engineering is required.1-8 years of experience in mining or environmental consulting strongly preferred. Academic background in mining hydrology and geochemistry may be considered in lieu of work experience.Knowledgeable about geochemical testing methods, water quality analysis, data QA/QC, and the evaluation of acid and metalliferous mine drainage.Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and GIS.Experience with geochemical modeling software including PHREEQC, Geochemist’s Workbench, and GoldSim strongly preferred.Experience with hydrogeologic modeling software such as MODFLOW, SURFACT, HYDRUS, FEFLOW, or Leapfrog is preferred.Strong attention to detail, with strong writing and communication skills.GIT, EIT, or can enter certification program within one year of employmentWork Environment:Position can be located in the Denver or Fort Collins, CO office. Research Geophysicist
