First Interview

Three Tips to Show Your Soft Skills in the First Interview:

1. Don't Say, Show

Just like writing it on your CV, saying in words that you are serious and reliable is worth ZERO.

Clearly these are skills that are demonstrated over time.

But if you have to demonstrate them in an interview, in a few minutes, how do you do it?

With examples.

Talk about situations you have found yourself in that show your seriousness, your work ethic, your integrity, etc.

Help those who listen to you imagine what it would be like to work with you.

2. Show your skills in real time

Yes, some of your soft skills naturally emerge during the interview.

One of these, and perhaps the most important, is Active Listening.

And here I make a brief digression.

Every day, 90% of the people you interact with have a LOST face.

Eyes in the void.

They are not present.

They do not listen to you.

Or if they do, it is because they are just waiting for the moment to respond.

What am I trying to tell you?

If you know how to listen actively, you will already be part of an elite 10%. Of those who Communicate. For real.

3. Adapt your approach

This skill is called in technical jargon "social calibration".

Adapt your approach based on who you are dealing with, with the sole objective of being as clear and concise as possible.

A practical example?

Don't talk to HR using the same technical terminology that you use when you talk to the Hiring Manager.

Those who use sophisticated words with interlocutors who do not have the tools to understand them, do not denote intelligence. But great communication incompetence.

Apply these 3 steps and you will see that you will no longer feel uncomfortable having to say "I am serious, good, cute and cuddly" during an interview. And, above all, you will see that you will get many more second interviews.
